Pros and Cons of Banning Indian Movies in Pakistan

As we all are familiar with the ongoing and growing tensions between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and several other issues, people in both the neighboring countries are much effected by the situation. The relations between the two countries are getting worse day by day due to many historical and political events.

One of the many things which have been effected by this event is the Cinema of both the countries. Indian government, soon after the dispute started, banned Pakistani artists to work in India permanently. IMPPA- Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association declared that no Pakistani artist will be allowed to work in Bollywood film projects in future. It was a shocking decision for people in both the countries as we all loved Pakistani actors in Indian Movies, Pakistani super actors and singers like Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Atif Aslam have received immense love for their work in India. In reply to this, Pakistani Cinema owners decided to boycott Indian Film Content in their Cinemas, and not to play Indian movies at all for an indefinite period of time, in solidarity with Pakistan Army.

Every coin has two faces, the same way everything has its own pros and cons, same is the case with this situation, and Banning Indian Movies has both advantages and disadvantages for Pakistani Cinemas.

Banning Indian movies has given much advantage to Pakistan; Pakistani Cinema now has a much better chance to grow, we all loved Indian movies a little too much and our hard earned money has always gone to their pockets, Indian movies easily managed to brag 5-6 crores from Pakistan but a very few, may be 1 or 2 Pakistani movies could do that much of business in Pakistan. Now, we can promote our own movies and revive our cinema. Pakistan is now unarguably making better movies, no Gandaasas and Gujjar Dakus anymore, decent content has been adopted while filmmakers and actors are doing a fantastic job. With this ban, people will now support Pakistani cinema like never before, though many Pakistani movies have earned Billions in Past, but now all eyes are on Pakistani movies as we have no other option. Unlike Hollywood and Bollywood Movies, Pakistani movies do not go out on piracy; technology is used for piracy worldwide, but fortunately not in Pakistan. Film maker also need to make decent movies to meet the expectations so that audience don’t miss the Indian movies. Our movies will surely promote our culture, our values and we won’t be seeing the Bhajan songs, and ‘Karwa Chaut ka Chand’ anymore. All our money now will remain in our country at least.

Coming to the darker side, so far banning the Indian movies has adversely effected the business of Pakistani Cinemas. All the big names in Cinema Industry of Pakistan say that the business has gone down due to the ban, people were expected to watch Pakistani movies, but however, the number of people coming to the cinemas has been reduced and so is the income of Cinemas. The consequences are so upsetting that the rumor is Pakistani cinema owners are regretting the decision and reconsidering it to resume the Indian Films in Pakistani, how true that rumor is; only time will tell.
It’s not like people are not watching movies, Thanks to technology; viewers download the movie easily into their laptops and watch it without paying a penny, Indian and English pirated content is easily available on the internet. And we obviously, we just can BAN Everything!
